English Summary – Gatineau Model Railroaders

Welcome to our site.

Our limited resources have not enabled us to translate the entire contents of our site. However, the following summary will help you understand our club’s aim and activities.

For more information, you can use free computerized translation services on the Internet to read the French texts. You can also reach us by e-mail or by phone using the English language.

Our club was established in 1995 to promote model railroading in Western Quebec. The club is supported by the city of Gatineau, which is located near Ottawa, the Canadian capital city.

We believe that model railroading is a great hobby that should be accessible to people of all ages and all backgrounds. Our club allows people who do not have the space or financial means to operate a home layout to enjoy the entire scope of model railroading activities, including carpentry work, electricity, electronics, structures and scenery, operations, film and photography, etc.  It is also a great way for experienced modellers to develop and refine their technical and artistic skills and bond with people who share their passion.

Our main activity is building and operating a large permanent layout in the HO scale. The layout comprises 1770 feet (501.2m) of tracks (as of 2009). One part of the layout is a on a single level bench however, most of our tracks are laid out on a three-level structure measuring 37 X 12 feet (11.1 X 3.85m).

Much remains to be done in terms of developing operations and creating structures and scenery. Our regular members are encouraged to develop diverse projects, either individually or as part of a club committee.

We participate in local exhibitions including the Gatineau modellers’ exhibit in January. We hold at least two open door events per year, including one before Christmas. We also organize outings for our members to museums, fairs, other layouts, and actual railroad sites.

The club owns a fine collection of books, videos, photographs, and magazines about trains and model railroading.
